Freeport-Mary V. Carpenter, 99, of Freeport, died Wednesday September 17, 2003 at the Freeport Rehabilitation & Health Care Center.
Born October 21, 1903 in Lena she was the daughter of Harvey and Anna (Heise) Pilson.
On April 26, 1933 Mary and Frank Carpenter were married in Chicago. Frank died October 4, 1980.
She worked at the Mrizek Bakery, the only Bohemian bakery in Chicago, for 15 years and Saint Ann's Catholic Hospital for 15 years.
She was a member of the Freeport Church of the Brethren.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother, a wonderful and caring person, always thinking of others. She was loved and adored by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Surviving are one son, Gerald (Luann) Carpenter of Freeport; five grandchildren, David (Cathy) Carpenter, Diane Carpenter, Debra Carpenter, Donald (Kathy) Carpenter, and Daniel Carpenter; six great-grandchildren, Patti Mills, Jamie Janowski, Christopher, Daniel, Miles, Joshua and Michael Carpenter; three great-great grandchildren, Austin, Gage, and Elizabeth; three nieces and one nephew.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; one son, Donald; and two brothers, Arthur and Chester Pilson .
She dedicated her body to science.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday 2:00 p.m. at Freeport Church of the Brethren will be held at a later date with Pastor Alan McLearn-Montz officiating.
Memorials have been established for the Freeport Church of the Brethren and The League for the Handicapped.
