Mary J. Martin, 84 of Freeport, IL passed away peacefully Saturday December 16th, 2023 at Ascension Living St Joseph Village. Born July 4th, 1939 near Lena, IL the daughter of George and Julia Gentz, she married Francis W. Martin on December 24th, 1960.

Mary and Francis raised 2 sons and had 2 foster children (Randy Wilsey and Donna Saxby) on a 2 acre farmette East of Freeport, IL where they enjoyed their favorite hobby together, gardening. They officially joined Freeport Church of the Brethren on June 24th, 1984 and were active in the Sunday School, Youth Group, Church Bazar, and other activities.

Mary is survived by 2 sons George (Myla) Martin of Los Angeles, and Willard (Jacki) Martin of Pecatonica; 3 granddaughters Larissa and Harlowe Martin of Los Angeles, and Casey Martin of Pecatonica; 1 Grandson, Riley Martin of Peoria; and 1 twin brother Marvin (Sharon) Gentz of Freeport.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Francis, her sister, Mildred (Clarence) Polhill, and 3 brothers, Ellsworth (Buck) (Gene), Joe, and Francis Gentz.

There will be a visitation on Friday, December 29, 2023 beginning at 10:30am followed by a service at 11:30am at Walker Mortuary in Freeport, IL.
