Mary Ann Martin 1937 - 2017
Mary Ann (Hill) Martin, 79 of Freeport, IL passed away peacefully with her family by her side, Sunday, January 1, 2017 at University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, WI.
She was born December 30, 1937 in Freeport, IL. The daughter of Roger F. and Beatrice (Holtum) Hill. She grew up working in the family creamery (Superior Dairy)/Union Dairy business and graduated from Freeport Sr. High School in 1956. She attended Beloit College until becoming a stewardess for American Airlines where she later met her late husband, Captain Louis H. Martin. She resided in Dallas, TX where they owned and managed Sparkle Homes, a building company with locations in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana. Upon returning to Freeport, IL, she pursued a career in nursing. She worked for Dr. Jamie Ballesteros, Newell and Anchor Harvey Components as an industrial nurse. Mary Ann also enjoyed working for the FHN Dr. After Hours Clinic for many years. In 2003, she retired from Anchor Harvey Components to be a full time grandma. She took great pride in her two grandsons and spent most of her time at sporting, school, Cub/Boy Scout events, band concerts and doing what grandma's do best - spending most of her time with the grandkids.
She enjoyed reading, sewing, traveling, making T-Shirt quilts and was an avid Packers fan.
Mary Ann is survived by her daughter Christina Rivera of Rockford, IL; grandsons Dallas and Dawson Rivera; brothers Roger A.C. (Cheryl) Hill of Nebraska City, NE, Mark A. Hill of Freeport, IL; stepson Gary L. Martin of Heath, TX; sister-in-law Cheryl Hill of Nebraska City, NE; 3 neices Jennifer Hill (California), Jody (Jeremy) Fritz (Kansas), Traci (Rick) Fleeman (Nebraska); and her Jack Russell Terrier - Jacki.
She was preceded in death by her parents Roger F. and Beatrice Hill; stepson Ronnie Martin of Dallas, TX and many uncles, aunts and cousins.
For all who knew Mary Ann, a MEMORIAL RECEPTION LUNCHEON celebrating her life will be held Sunday, January 29th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at: 330 N. Park Blvd.-Freeport, IL (formerly the Woodfire 330 restaurant) Food served 1pm- 4pm with a special memorial service at 3pm. Please bring your favorite memory to share.
