Mary Elizabeth Stabenow, 90, of Freeport, died Sunday September 11, 2016, at Provena St. Joseph Nursing Center.
Born December 16, 1925 in Freeport she was the daughter of Fred and Nellie (Hocking) Kurth. She married Dale Stabenow July 1, 1944 in Durham, North Carolina. He died November 13, 2014
A member of Embury United Methodist Church for 78 years she was the church secretary for 28 years. At the time of her death she was the oldest and longest member of the church
She was a member of the United Methodist Women and taught Sunday school at Embury. She was a Girl Scout troop leader while her girls were in scouts.
Mary was an avid Bridge player and die hard Cub fan.
Surviving are her children, Pamela (David) Fellenzer of Freeport and Debra Day of Las Cruces. New Mexico ; 7 grandchildren, Melissa (Craig) Geiser of Freeport, Derek (Shannon) Fellenzer of Dubuque, Iowa, Miles Mayberry of Seattle, Washington, Marshall Day of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Davis (Tabitha) Day and Maggie (David) Hovey both of Las Cruces., New Mexico and Rachel (Alex Bennett)Day of Portland, Oregon; 10 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, Bernard Kurth.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Embury United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Walker Mortuary.
Burial will be in the Lena Burial Park.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for Embury United Methodist Church.
