Melvin M. Marcum, age 91 of Freeport, IL, passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport. He was born October 1, 1926; the son of the late Chester and Florence (Bolender) Marcum. He was a graduate of Freeport High School. Melvin married Ardeth Knodle on April 18, 1948; she passed on February 9, 2018.

He had served in the United States Navy and he retired from Kelly Springfield. Melvin was a member of the Freeport Eagles Club for over 50 years. His memberships also include the Freeport VFW, Shannon American Legion, and the Snow Pearls. He was an avid Chicago sports fan, especially of the Cubs. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and bowling. Melvin loved tending to his big garden and taking care of his lawn.

He is survived by his son, David (Heather) Marcum of Cedarville, IL; grandchildren, Brad Marcum, Alisha Simler, and Terry Cooper; three great grandchildren; brothers, Don (Shirley) Marcum and Chester (Catherine) Marcum both of Freeport; and sister-in-laws, Iris Reed and Linda Marcum. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ardeth; son, Rodger; daughter, Linda Cooper; brothers, Max, Jim, and Kenny; and sister, Dixie Diddens.
