Melvin George Schubert, 90, of Freeport, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 24, 2014, at Manor Court in Freeport.
Born June 2, 1924 in a farm house south of Stockton he was the son of Raymond F. and Bessie A. (Sanbourn) Schubert.
He attended Berreman School in Mt. Carroll. He married Doris E. Getz March 17, 1946 in Mount Carroll.
Melvin was a Millwright at Kelly Springfield Tire Company for 22 years.
Melvin enjoyed working on automobiles, watches, clocks, and many other mechanical devices throughout his working years. After his retirement he became an avid woodworker. He spent many hours making beautiful clocks, toys, baskets and refinishing furniture.
Surviving are his wife, Doris of Freeport; his daughters, Elizabeth (Bill) Kline of Greer, SC, Janice (Creig) Timm of Hollandale, WI; his sons, Ben (Faye) Schubert of Hollister, MO, Kelvin (Ruth) Schubert of Juneau, AK and John (Janet) Schubert of Freeport; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister and an infant brother.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, December 1, 2014 at Walker Mortuary, 321 W. Main St., Freeport, Illinois with Reverend Kurt Strong officiating. Burial will be in the Grandview Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday 9:30 a.m. until time of service at Walker Mortuary.
A memorial has been established for the radio program at Moody Bible Institute.
