Freeport
Merlin A. Epping of Freeport, died May 31, 2016 at Manor Court in Freeport.
He was born February 15, 1928 in Davenport, Iowa to Vincent and Florence (Harbsmeier) Epping. He attended Freeport High School and finished his education in 1946. He married M. Jean Harris April 15, 1953. He owned and operated E&T Standard on Stephenson St with his brother in law, Joe Tegl from 1954-1981. He was a veteran of the Army serving from 1948-1952.
Merlin was a quiet and generous man. He and Jean loved camping, fishing and boating in both Wisconsin and Minnesota. He was an avid Cubs and Bears fan, enjoyed cold beer, euchre, gardening, cooking, fireworks and was also a practical joker. He and his wife Jean lived in the house that they built in 1959.
Surviving is his sister, Joan (Allen) Bear of Orangeville, Sister-in-law Gloria Epping of Freeport and nephew & niece Steve and Lynn Epping of Freeport along with numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, 1 brother Donald and 3 sisters, Evelyn Tegl, Lois Siegmeier and Arlyne Jones
Services will be Monday, June 6th at 11am at the Chapel of Peace at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation beginning at 10am until the time of service all at the Chapel of Peace.
A memorial has been established for the First Church of the Open Bible Church of Freeport.
