Merna C. Kampmier, 91, of Freeport, died Sunday, February 1, 2015, at her home. Born September 17, 1923 in Pearl City, she was the daughter of Arthur and Lydia (Beyer) Brinkmeier. She married Glenn L. Kampmier April 3, 1969 and he died October 23, 2011. Merna worked for Woolworth in Freeport for many years, then Micro Switch Company in Freeport for 15 years retiring in 1985, and after retirement she worked for the Freeport School District at the High School. She was a member of United Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are her son, Terry (Mona) Johnson of Rockford; six daughters, Geraldine Weier and Donna Downing, both of Freeport, Joyce Baker of California, Sandra (Charles) Robinson of Sparks, Nevada, Pauline (Allen) Groezinger of Freeport, and Beverly Huyck of Rockford; one step-son Thomas (Lenora) Kampmier of Rockford; her sisters, Elaine Bicker of Lanark, Doris Ditsworth of Freeport, Betty (Keith) Kohn of McConnell, Arlene Camerer of Freeport, and LaVonne Liphart of Arkansas; her brothers, Jerold Brinkmeier of Morrison, Dennis Brinkmeier of Waddams Grove, and Keith Brinkmeier; 16 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers; one sister; two son-in-laws. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Walker Mortuary.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service Thursday at Walker Mortuary. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for FHN Hospice.
