Miriam May Squires , age 74 of Freeport, IL, passed away at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, WI on Monday, May 24, 2021. She was born May 4, 1947; the daughter of the late Lowell and Marjorie (Mann) Kahly. She was a 1965 graduate of Leaf River High School. Miriam married Raymond Squires on December 14, 1968; he passed on October 2, 2018.

She worked for Burgess Battery and later for Newell until retiring. After retirement, she was a caregiver for Help at Home. Miriam enjoyed going for walks, puzzles and gardening. Together, Miriam and Raymond loved going to car races. She was a kind, caring and patient person. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Sherrie Schweder of Sioux City, IA, Terry Squires of Gotham, WI, and Johnnie (Judy) Squires of Tomahawk, WI; grandchildren: Zachary, Danielle & Jeremiah Squires; Ethan Squires; Dominic Schweder; Kaley Schreck; and Cameron Schweder; great grandchildren, Riley Ray & Amelia Squires and Bennett Schweder; brothers, Robert (Sally) Kahly of Big Rapids, MI, John Kahly of Terra Alta, WV, and David (Annette) Kahly of Moorhead, MN; and sisters, Eleanor Price of Elkhorn, WI, Linda (Keith) Meier of Ridott, IL, Mary Kahly of Mt. Morris, IL, Martha (Bruce) Campbell of Valley Center, KS, and Nancy (Bobby) Lounsberry of Brimfield, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Raymond.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 27 ^th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Walker Mortuary in Freeport. The funeral service will be Friday, May 28 ^th at 2:00 p.m. also at Walker Mortuary. Interment will take place at Oakland Cemetery in Freeport. A memorial fund has been established in her name. Condolences may be shared with her family at www.walkermortuary.com.
