Mirla M. Miller (91) was called to heaven on Friday January 7, 2011 in Manor Court at Liberty Village in Freeport IL. Mirla was born near Davis, IL and spent the majority of her life living in the Davis area, eventually making her home in Freeport. She came into this life on July 8, 1919 to her loving parents, Henry A and Edna (Meinert) Miller. Mirla attended Davis schools through the 8th grade and then helped her parents on the farm.
She married her soul-mate, Harold (Corky) Miller on June 15, 1941 as they began their life together running a grocery business in Davis. Together they had four children, Judy (Bill) Brady of Freeport IL, Betty (Marshall) Mennenga of Oregon WI, Diane (Michael) Griffith of Kansas City MO and Dennis (Peggy) Miller of Rockford.
Mirla worked many years along side her husband in the farming business in the Davis area. She also worked at the Honeywell division of Micro Switch for exactly 10 years and then joined her husband at the H&R Block income tax franchise in Freeport. She worked there for 33 years in quality control and at various times worked alongside all four of her children and five of her grandchildren. Mirla finally retired at age 83 due to health reasons.
Mirla was a life-time member of St Paul Church of Epleyanna Davis IL. For many years she served as the pianist/organist for the church and as an active member of various church organizations.
Mirla loved to travel and visited all 50 states and Europe. Bowling was an activity she enjoyed which took her on trips to the Women's National Bowling tournaments for several years. She was an avid walker and a member of various exercise classes. Mirla had a wide circle of dear friends and for many years she routinely visited them on certain days of the week. Those friends could always count on Mirla to be there for her weekly visit.
She was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband in 1974 and sister Neva Pfund.
In addition to her four children she is survived by eleven grandchildren, Jeff (Amber) Slamp of Freeport, Tami (Luis) Berrelez of Peoria AZ, Terri (Bill) Meier of Orangeville, Angie (Les) Williams of Deerfield WI, Sherri (Doug) Liedberg of Holland OH, Tricia Suess of Stoughton WI, Britton Rowe of Kansas City KS, Grant (Jenny) Rowe of Sebring FL, Jessica (Mark) Weiand of Reno NV, Jacque Miller of Winnebago, Justina Miller of Rockford, 6 step-grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 13 step great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
