Nelson Lee Snavely, age 80 of Shannon, IL, passed away at home on Saturday, February 28, 2026. He was born July 10, 1945 in Freeport, IL; the son of the late Clarence Nelson and Evelyn Clara (Huermann) Snavely. He attended and graduated from Shannon High School, Highland Community College, and Illinois State with his Master’s in Industrial Technology. Nelson married Linda L. Grabow on May 2, 1977.
He was a master of many trades. He began his own electrical business that served the area farmers. Nelson worked Asche Trucking for many years. He spent the last fifteen years as Director of Maintenance for Stephenson County and retired in 2015. He was a Lion’s Club member and responsible for all the electrical needs for Shannon Homecoming form 1978 – 2017. Nelson was very involved with his children’s lives and schooling. He attended many sports and school functions of his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Snavely; son, Troy Boeke; daughter, Amy (Scott) Schoonhoven; grandsons, Ryan Schoonhoven and Alec Schoonhoven; granddaughter, Madyson Schoonhoven; nephew, Todd (Susan) Stone; nieces, Brenda (Tony) Ferrara, Terri (Randy) Knapp, Deborah (Scott) Olberding; and sister-in-laws, Sue (James) Boeke and Nancy Grabow.
He is preceded in death by his parents Clarence & Evelyn Snavely; sister, Diane Stone; brother-in-laws, Robert Stone and James Grabow; in-laws, Roger and Syliva Grabow; and special aunt, Iona Lueck.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at Walker Mortuary in Freeport, IL. There will be a visitation before the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at the Brethren Cemetery in Shannon, IL. A memorial fund has been established for Friends Forever Humane Society and for FHN Hospice. Condolences may be shared with his family at www.walkermortuary.com.
