Freeport: Norma Jean Wahler, 76, died Tuesday September 30, 2003 at Rockford Memorial Hospital due to a sudden illness. Norma Jean was an Operator for the Northwestern Telephone Company for 39 ½ years. She was member of Grace Episcopal Church and she enjoyed traveling with her friends, visiting many places in the United States. She also enjoyed socializing with her fellow retired telephone operators the last Friday of every month. She was a graduate of Freeport High School, class of 1944. Born October 18, 1926 in Freeport. She was the daughter of Frederick and Catherine (Green) Wahler. Surviving is her sister, Joyce Holbert of Freeport, four nephews, Stephen (Karen) Holbert of Freeport, Jeffrey (Karessa) Holbert of Burleson, TX, Michael (Dianne) Holbert of Orland Park, IL, Frederick Wahler of Michigan and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one infant brother Frederick Jr. and one brother the Reverend Fred Wahler.
Cremation rights were accorded. Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday at Walker Mortuary. Burial will be held in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport.
