Norman G. Battenberg, 80, of Freeport died Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at his home. Born October 15, 1932 in Washington, D.C. he was the son of Norman and Amelia (Bjork) Battenberg. In 1960 he and Lorena Elliott were united in marriage and she preceded him in death in 1990. In February of 1993 he married Linda Mueller. For many years Norm worked as a cheese maker. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving from 1950-1952. His memberships include Monroe VFW and American Legion Post, and the First Free Methodist Church in Freeport. Norm enjoyed vegetable gardening. Surviving are his wife Linda of Freeport, daughter Dorothy (Jeff) Stites of Orangeville, step son James Mueller of Scales Mound, a sister Laura P (Bill) Moore of Lewisburg, PA, a cousin Charles (Rita) Battenberg of Germyn, PA and six grandchildren Alex and Mitchel Stites, Timothy, Joseph, Leah and Elizabeth Mueller. Preceding him in death were his parents and wife Lorena.
