Freeport: Norman F. Borchers 66, died Wednesday March 10, 2004 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport after a courageous battle with cancer. Born March 26, 1937 in Freeport he was the son of Frank and Anna (Petry) Borchers. On June 27, 1969 he married Donna Brinkmeier in Nashua, Iowa. He was educated in Baileyville and Freeport Schools. He worked for and managed the Baileyville Elevator for 13 years, Newell Co. and the City of Freeport retiring in 1999. He attended Crossroads Community Church and was a past Stephenson County Fair Board Member, Eagles Club member, Stephenson County Farm bureau, member and past president of the Stephenson County Mounted Patrol for 20 years, Superintendent of Harness Racing for the Stephenson County Fair Board. He was a familiar sight at area farm sales and auctions; he enjoyed Harness Racing, Hunting, fishing and spending special time with his adopted son Erich. Surviving are his wife of Freeport, his mother, Anna (Borchers) Gottschalk of Freeport, one daughter Cindy (Don Hull) McIlvanie of Shannon, four Stepsons, Jeff (Susan) Brinkmeier of Beavercreek, OH, Steve (Margo) Brinkmeier of Stillman Valley, Michael (Julie Gerber) Brinkmeier of Freeport and Terry Brinkmeier of Phoenix, AZ, one Stepdaughter, Janet (Keith) Kiefer of Rockford and his adopted son Erich Brinkmeier of Freeport. Seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his Father and one Stepdaughter, Loretta Saunders. Funeral service will be held 11:00 am Saturday at Walker Mortuary with Keith Boyer Pastor of Crossroads Community Church officiating. Burial will be in Cranes Grove Cemetery.
