Obituary

Paul Edward Bertram, age 96, Cedarville, Illinois

Paul was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa and great-great grandpa.  He truly enjoyed family get-togethers and holidays.  He was a devoted partner in every way to his wife of 70 years, Margaret, who preceded him in death in 2015.  He was truly the rock that made up our family's foundation.  He and Margaret built two homes together themselves; which was a big accomplishment.  He has now entered into eternal life with his beloved wife, together forever.  For him, there is no greater reward.

Paul died very peacefully September 21, 2018 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport, Illinois.  He was born January 15, 1922 in Freeport, Illinois, the son of Chris and Alta (Herbig) Bertram.  After being discharged from the Army after WW2, he worked as a cement finisher, hauled coal, and worked so well with customers that he was promoted to office work.  He also  worked at Fullerton Lumber, and the last several years as a buyer – estimator at Lena Builders.  After retirement in 1987, he and his wife had a successful Christmas tree business at their home in Cedarville for many years.  Paul and Margaret were able to travel extensively in the U.S., which they truly enjoyed.

He was preceded in death by his parents Chris and Alta, wife Margaret, son Norman Bertram, twin sister Ruth (Elwood) Seaton, sister Florence (Eaton) Yokers, son-in law Mimmo Ricci and granddaughter Natalie Ricci, grandson Lyle Miller, and great grandson, Cody Larsen.  He is survived by three children:  Karen Miller, McConnell, Illinois, Galen (Carole) Bertram, Freeport, Illinois, Dona Ricci, Verona, Wisconsin, and daughter-in-law Kim Bertram, Winnebago, Illinois.  Twelve grandchildren: Janet Euler, Laurie (Ron) Oberle, Lisa (Justin) Wright, Kristi (Kevin) Neubauer, Amanda (fiancé Jaime Vizcarra) Bertram, Alex (Nikki) Bertram, Clint (Leslie) Bertram, Eric (Stephanie) Bertram, Jared Bertram, Holly Bertram, Adam (Shannon) Ricci, Daniel (Kate) Ricci, and step-grandson Rhett (Robin) Livengood.  Also surviving are eighteen great-grandchildren and five great- great grandchildren.

A special thanks to all of the Doctors and nurses at FHN who cared for both Mom and Dad over the last several years, but a special thanks to Hospitalist Dr. Kalnins, Heart doctors Dr. Kilaru and Dr. Narra, and Primary Care Dr. Schleich.  These wonderful people, with God's help, gave us many years of extended time with Mom and Dad.

Visitation will be Friday, September 28 th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Walker Mortuary in Freeport, and the funeral Saturday, September 29 th at 10:30 at Walker Mortuary.  Burial will follow the service at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
