Phillip Herzfeldt , age 76, of Freeport, IL, passed away at home on Thursday, September 21, 2023. He was born July 12, 1947; the son of the late Harlan and Iva (Gilbertson) Herzfeldt. Phillip married Patricia Cassens on September 19, 1992.

He had served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1967 – 1971, stationed in Thailand. He then went to work for the United States Post Office, starting out in Mt. Morris and retiring from the Freeport office.

Phillip was an avid reader and loved history, non-fiction books, and magazines. He also enjoyed watching trains and going to car shows. After his retirement he acquired his prized 2007 Ford Mustang, special edition. He was quite social and had a wonderful sense of humor. He could strike up a conversation with anyone he met.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Herzfeldt of Freeport and brother, Brian Herzfeldt of Chicago. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gregory Herzfeldt.
