Freeport: Phyllis D. Downey, 88 of Freeport died Tuesday May 18, 2010 at Provena St. Joseph's Home, Freeport. Born September 14, 1921 in Freeport she was the daughter of George and Marion (Brigham) Schimelpfenig. She married Jay Downey and he preceded her in death. Phyllis is survived by one daughter, Caroljean Steele of Freeport; 7 grandchildren, Victoria (Bart) Stoehr of Moorpark, Cal., Jacqueline (Tom) Spaide of Cedarville, Julie (Mel) Abels of Freeport, Scott (Angie) Holbert of Morrison, Molly (Joel) Plum of Freeport, Richard Holbert of Freeport, Meri (Greg Sizemore) Huenefeld of Orange City, FL. 13 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren and one Brother-In-Law, Don Holdeman of Michigan; Dear friends, Don Elsey and Frances Laurence both of Freeport. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 daughter, Sharon Rockhold, 2 brothers, 1 sister and 1 son-in-law, Jack Steele.
A funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. Monday May 24, 2010 at Faith United Methodist Church with the Reverend John W. Lee officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport. Visitation will be Monday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at Faith United Methodist. A memorial has been established.
