Phyllis Ann Weisel
April 14, 1934 – October 12, 2025

Phyllis Ann Weisel, 91, of Freeport, IL, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2025, at FHN Hospital.

She was born on April 14, 1934, to Paul and Leita (Brown) Wolf. Phyllis married Roger Remmers on November 9, 1952, and together they farmed for many years before his passing on July 4, 1981. She later married Norman Weisel on April 21, 1990, and they shared nearly three decades together until his passing in July 2019.

Phyllis was a devoted member of the Freeport Mennonite Church, where she served as the church chorister for many years and was a longtime member of The Chapel Singers sextet. She was also an active participant in the church's WMSC sewing circle, welcomed foster and Fresh Air Children into her home, and was a dedicated supporter of MCC's Mobile Meat Canning Project.

After farming life, Phyllis worked for more than 15 years at Malcolm Eaton Enterprises, where she was appreciated for her caring nature and strong work ethic. Following her marriage to Norman, she enjoyed traveling across the United States in their camper, visiting friends and family along the way.

Phyllis was a talented seamstress and quilter, creating cherished heirlooms that her family will treasure for generations. She deeply loved her grandchildren and especially the annual hiking and picnic trips around northern Illinois that she and Norman took them on.  Whoopie Pies were a tradition on these trips and continued to be part of Christmas gifts for years to come.

She is survived by her son, Walden (Nancy) Remmers and their children, daughters, Yvette (Gregg) Afflerbaugh and their sons and April (Paul) Haeflinger and their children; nine stepchildren and their families; grandchildren, Ryan, Melissa, Kristin, Randall, Rae (Jessica), Aaron (Liz), Katelynn (Brandon), and Aaron (Carly) R; great-grandchildren, Oliver, Rylie, Sophia, Elwood and Shepherd.  She is also survived by sister, Nola Miller, sister-in-law Darlene Shouer, along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Leita Wolf; her husbands, Roger Remmers and Norman Weisel; her sister, Judith Busjahn, sisters-in-law Marilyn Adams and Pauline Braddy, and nephew, Curtis Shouer.

Funeral services will be held at Freeport Mennonite Church on Saturday, October 18, 2025 with visitation from 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM with services to follow at 11:00 AM, also at the church with Pastor Rosalind Young officiating.

Phyllis will be remembered for her faith, generosity, and joyful spirit. Her legacy of love, music, and service will continue to inspire all who knew her.
