Quentin E. Howarth passed to a better life on Sunday, November 18, 2018.
He was born on Dec. 13, 1930 to George and Harriet (Lattig) Howarth in Freeport, Il. He attended schools in Freeport and graduated from FHS in 1948. The family moved to Cedarville in 1945, where he lived most of his life. He married Corinne Fink on April 9, 1950 at the Cedarville United Methodist Church, where he remained a member. They had 3 sons and 1 daughter. Corinne passed on Dec.29, 1994. He married Gloria (Stees) Nelson on June 17, 1999 at Rockton, IL.
He apprenticed as a plumber for Shepley Hayner, before entering the Navy on April 16, 1951. During the Korean Conflict he served as a pipefitter on the USS Union, AKA106, the USS Catamount, LSD171, and the USS Tortuga, LSD26. After his discharge in 1955, he worked for Shepley Hayner until the company closed in 1963. He then worked for Charles Pack until 1969. At that time he started his own business. He was involved in the construction of several new buildings and schools in the area and did maintenance at businesses and homes throughout northwest Illinois before "closing his shop door". He joined Micro Switch maintenance crew in 1983 and retired in 1993 to care for Corinne.
He was able to travel and cruise with Corinne and family and friends. He enjoyed getting together for card game nights, dining out with friends and a few family camping trips. He and Gloria enjoyed back road drives in the tri-state area, trips through the West, a cruise along the Alaska/Canada coastline, family gatherings and spending time with special friends.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Douglas(Cindy) Howarth; Dale (Kerri) Howarth; daughter, Debra (Dennis) Heer, 7 grand-children; Amanda (Codie) Stoner; Brandon (Kate) Howarth, Kayla (Jeremy) Rogers; Kylie (Chris Carey) Howarth; Quentin R. Howarth; Collin and Evan Heer; also 4 step-grandchildren; Therese, Patrick, Clare, and Sam Hughes;9 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Diana Howarth; and several nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by 3 step-daughters, Conni (Roger) Kohlmeier,; Bonni (Trent) Senneff; Stacy(Kerry), Thurman; 6 step-grand-children: Melony (Robb) Showwalter; Kayla Kohlmeier (Thomas Larson), Marrissa (Derik) Anderson, Zachary (Ramsey) Senneff, Nathan Lamm; Jamie Lamm (Amber Castle); 6 step great-grandchildren, and brother-in-law, Wayne Werkheiser.
He was pre-deceased by his parents; his wife Corinne; son, David; and sister, Paula Ehrler.
Cremation rites will be followed by a private family service at a later date.
