Ralph Frank Atz, 98, of Freeport, formerly of Dakota, died Friday, December 14, 2007, at the Stephenson Nursing Center.
Born October 13, 1909 in Woodbine Twp, he was the son of John and Mary Agnes (Randecker) Atz. He married Sarah L. Eberle December 25, 1931 and she preceded him in death July 21, 1993.
Ralph was an Independent Insurance & Real Estate agent for 20 years, Antique Dealer with Flying Eagle Antiques, Cheese Factory owner, Milk Man with Town View Dairy, Carpenter, and Dakota General Store Owner.
His hobby was growing and then selling produce for the local farmer's markets.
Ralph was a former mayor of Dakota.
His memberships included the Dakota United Methodist Church, Charter member of the Dakota's Lions Club, past president of the Dakota Fireman's Association, and past member of the Dakota School Board.
Surviving is his son, Kenneth A. (Barbara A.) Atz of Rockford; one daughter in-law, Judith Atz of Dakota; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son, Robert Atz; 1 grandson; 6 brothers; and 1 sister.
Funeral service will be Monday 2 p.m. at Daughenbaugh Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor Thad Rutter of Dakota United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Dakota Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday 1 p.m. until time of service at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established in his name.
