Obituary

Randa Lee (Moore) Crayton 73, of Freeport, IL crossed the Rainbow Bridge on September 1st, 2022 9:16pm at home surrounded by her family after a long battle with chronic illness.

She was born September 29, 1948 in Kewanee, IL to Howard Hurley and Irene Veronica (Comerford) Moore. She grew up in Delavan, IL and had residences in both Rockford, IL and Davis, IL throughout her adulthood. In 2006 she planted roots in Freeport, IL in her large cherished two-story brick home, after falling in love with it's original charm and woodwork details.

Randa was a proud Army veteran who served in the Vietnam war working in Psyops. She held long-term jobs at both Cochrane Compressor Company in Rockford, IL and later the State of Illinois Department of Human Services in both Rockford, IL and Freeport, IL where she retired as a caseworker in 2011.

Her children hold many fond memories of their time growing up in a huge brick house on South 4th St. in Rockford, IL. She had a love of pickup trucks and motorcycles and took a special liking to her White Chevy Camaro Z28 T-Top in her younger years.

She thrived on being outdoors where she enjoyed many travels to spend time with family, camping trips, forest preserves, hiking and horse back riding. She reveled in the satisfaction of chopping her own wood and then sitting by the fireplace or bonfire with friends and family enjoying the fruits of her labor.

She was a talented quilter, impressive jigsaw puzzler, avid morel mushroom hunter, amazing home cook and baker. She enjoyed visiting breweries and vineyards, wine tasting, collecting wine glasses and an overflowing cup of crushed ice!

She spent countless hours in her flower beds, admiring her garden and bird watching. She took great pride in her expansive flower and vegetable gardens and enjoyed canning and sharing her harvest with loved ones. She deeply loved her neighbors and friends who essentially became part of her extended family.

Randa was a breast cancer survivor who never let her disease slow her down. She was a free spirit and beautiful example that the most important things in life are intangible. She was a memory maker through and through who lived life to the fullest. A one-of-a-kind rare gem who lived life unapologetically on her own terms. For all who knew Randa she was a "Jill of all Trades & Master of Many."

We love you and will miss you dearly. See you somewhere over the rainbow!

Randa is survived by her self-proclaimed husband, Actor Denzel Washington! :) Her sister, Ruth Hilton and many Nieces and Nephews whom she adored. Her six children: Michael Moore (Martha Torres) and his former spouse Sue Moore, Christina (Don) Knight, Yolanda Moore and her former spouse Usvaldo Cruz, Shanika Moore, Franciene (Andrew) Sabens and Katisha Crayton (Brian Morris).
