IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Randy L.
Mcfalls
December 14, 1943 – July 16, 2021
R.L. McFalls (Randy) was born on December 14, 1943 to Dick R. McFalls and June (Brubaker) McFalls in Freeport, Illinois. He was the oldest of four; a brother John and sisters Sharyn and Jolene followed. Randy attended Freeport Public Schools graduating from Freeport Senior High in May 1964. He chose to enter the Marine Corps 1961-63 returning for his senior year and graduation.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jackie; daughters Mindy McFalls and Shelley Mills of western Washington; granddaughter Gillian McFalls and grandsons Gary Garcia, Kerrigan Garcia and Andrew Mills; Sharyn Babcock (Duane) of Lena, Illinois; Jolene Barncord (Frank)of Mascoutah, Illinois; John McFalls of Freeport, Illinois; 10 nieces and nephews and 13 grand nieces and nephews.
Randy began a sales career in Rockford Illinois at Stuckey's, a men's clothing store. During that employment Randy married his classmate Jackie Bower on June 4, 1966 at Faith United Methodist Church. A' Top Salesman" Award in 1967 resulted in a 1967 Las Vegas trip, beginning acknowledgement of his sales expertise. In 1971 Randy joined Washington National Insurance as a salesman earning top honors with Chairman and Century Club Awards 1972-73. Returning to Freeport Randy continued his career in sales at organizations including Don's Hobbies & Toys and Sol Levy's Men's Clothing. During those years Randy and Jackie were joined by daughters, Melinda Renae (1972) and Michelle Linn (1974).
After years of success in sales, the challenge of owning his own business resulted in Randy and Jackie purchasing Reitinger Cleaners, a long time business whose owner Andy worked for one year to teach Randy the business. Randy proudly hired a Laotian immigrant Vantha as his tailor. Six years later in 1986 Vantha bought the business from "BOSSMAN".
As a business owner, Randy's commitment to service spread throughout the community. He was a charter member (1978) and President (1980) of Lincoln Douglas Kiwanis. As a member of the Freeport Area Chamber of Commerce, Randy was elected Director 1985-88 and Ambassador welcoming new and expanding businesses. His community service extended to United Way of Freeport (1983-84) and Stephenson County Prevention of Child Abuse (President and Board member for a decade).
While in Freeport Randy and Jackie were blessed with their first grandchild, a granddaughter, Gillian. Over the years and since Gillian's graduation from college, she has been a significant part of their lives with Randy serving as coach and mentor.
In 1990 Randy and the family relocated to Salt Lake City for Jackie's employment, returning to Freeport in 1992. Randy accepted Directorship of the Freeport Area Church Cooperative whose mission was to enhance donations of food, clothing and money from the community. Randy then joined Sinclair Builders as a telecommunications specialist; Charles Walgreen of the Walgreens drugstore enterprise purchased his elaborate personal home telecommunications system from Randy.
