Raymond Lisle Wine, 79, of Freeport died Sunday, April 25, 2004 at FHN Memorial Hospital. He was born February 26, 1925 in Oelwein, Iowa, son of George and Gladys (Lisle) Wine. He married Winnifred L. Anderson on April 14, 1946 in Oelwein. Ray graduated from Oelwein High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy from July 1943 to March 1946. He held the rank of Quartermaster 2nd class and was a helmsman on the battleship U.S.S. Massachusetts. After graduating from Drake University he was hired in June of 1950 as Business Manager for Deaconess Hospital (now FHN Memorial Hospital). He was promoted to Assistant Administrator in 1955. In February of 1956, he was appointed the Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, a position he held until his retirement in July 1986. He continued working at the hospital as President of Memorial Enterprises until his full retirement on December 31, 1988. Ray was a Charter Board Member of Freeport Health Care Foundation, Freeport Memorial Hospital's parent corporation and held positions as their President and Chairman of the Board.
