Rock City
Richard L Boyer, 74, of Rock City, Il., passed away suddenly on Tuesday, January 5, 2016. Born June 13, 1941, in Ridott, Il. to Arthur and Dorothy (Asche) Boyer, he graduated from Dakota High School in 1959. He married Sharon Rockey on March 17, 1961 in Rock Grove, Il.
Richard was a man who worked hard all of his life with his first job driving a milk truck with his father to driving a stock truck for Earl Keister at 16. He began a 51 year career with Rockford Blacktop in 1959 on the Blacktop Farm and then spent years as a dispatcher. He then worked as a project manager before finally retiring as an operator in 2010.
Richard enjoyed the outdoors with his children and grandchildren: snowmobiling, boating, and driving his truck and all-terrain vehicle to visit friends and family. He was an avid fan of NASCAR and acquired a vast display of John Deere and racing memorabilia. His pastime often included daily visits to Don's Oasis for breakfast and enjoying the horses on the family farm.
Richard is survived by: his wife, Sharon; three sons and their wives: Scott ( Cindy), Tim ( Kelli), and Tom (Dawn); his brother, Russel (Debbie) Boyer of Ridott; seven grandchildren: Chris (Ashley), Eric, Skylar, Shiane, Haleigh, Tanner, and Lauren; two great-grandchildren: Lucas and Brayden.
He was preceded in death by: a daughter, Kristen, his parents, two brothers, Ron and Joe, a nephew, Mike, his in-laws, and a sister-in-law.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 9, 2016 at St Paul Church of Epleyanna 8800 E Epleyanna Road, Davis, Illinois. Burial will be in the Davis Cemetery in Davis.
Visitation will be 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the St. Paul Church of Epleyanna in Davis
A memorial will be established.
