Freeport
Richard "Dick" Allen Schmelzle, 79, of Freeport, passed away, Sunday, May 24, 2015, at his home.
Born August 12, 1935 in Freeport he was the son of Albert and Edna (Meier) Schmelzle. He married Sally Anne Willis May 19, 1956.
Dick worked at the Journal Standard, Micro Switch, 18 years at Freeport Dye Works, Oak Brand Dairy, and retired from Danfoss.
He loved his family. Dick enjoyed, motorcycling, boating, fishing, snowmobiling, his horses, and most of all his Lionel Trains.
His memberships included Lifetime member of Freeport Elks Lodge and member Freeport Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Surviving is his wife, Sally of Freeport; his son, Randy of Freeport; his daughter-in-laws, Lisa Vanbrocklin of Florida and Julia Kaye Schmelzle of Freeport; 3 grandchildren, Christopher (Kayla Hagen) Schmelzle, Miranda Schmelzle, and Savannah Schmelzle; 3 great grandchildren, Zoie, Kaylee and Nathan Schmelzle, his beloved dogs, Misty, Jewel, Ruby, and Sassie; and his very good friends, Bob Jury and Bert Brinkmeier of Freeport.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Diane Lynn Schmelzle; his sister, Doris Schumacher; and his nephew, David Schumacher.
Family and friends are invited to meet at Walker Mortuary at 12:45 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2015. There will be a procession from the funeral home to the Chapel of Peace at Oakland Cemetery where at 1 p.m. there will be a funeral service conducted by longtime friend, Reverend William H. Blomberg. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his name.
