Obituary

Richard (Dick) Lamia, 80 of Freeport, IL, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2018 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport. He was born in Freeport on May 8, 1938; the son of Andrew and Lorraine (Gamber) Lamia. He graduated from Freeport High School in 1956, joining the United States Navy the next day. After boot camp, the United States Marines chose him to be a medic and he went through their boot camp. He spent two years in Okinawa; mustered out in California.

He started his first business as a small boy selling earth worms, he stocked shelves at a local grocery at 8 years old and road Cannova's delivery truck. He always said he ate more bologna than they sold. He worked at A&P, Piggly Wiggly, Lee's Market, Farmers Market Manager, and owned a bakery in Morrison, IL. He worked at W.T. Rawleigh and was the last employee to leave. He sold and disassembled all their machinery, shipped it then flew to the business, reassembled the machinery and showed them how it ran.

He was good at everything: carpentry, plumbing, and electricity. He worked at FHN Hospital in maintenance and bio-med. He retired at 70. He loved riding motorcycles, fishing & boating, and being on the water or near it, especially in MN. He was a very good cook and was always looking for new recipes. He loved animals; especially his dogs, Nose, Major, Kelli & Abby.

He married Anna (Engel) Nesbit on November 14, 1986 at the Church by the Side of the Road in Rockton, IL. They were married 31 years.

He is survived by his wife, Anna; daughter, Christine Lamia of Sun Valley, NV; granddaughter, Ciara Lamia (Abraham Mongatuo) and great grandson, Gabriel of Vancouver, WA; daughter, LuAnne (Todd) Ostle; granddaughters, Ava & Nicole Ostle of Spokane, WA; brother, Alan (Carolyn) Lamia of Shawano, WI; Nephew, Joe (Sarah) Lamia and children, Mady, Sophie, & Andy of Clintonville, WI; nephew, Mike Lamia of Chicago, IL; sister-in-law, Sandra Connors of Freeport; nephew, Tim (Becky) Connors and sons, Ethan & Henry; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Bob Connors.

We want to thank FHN Hospice for their tender loving care for the last 9 months; especially Lindsey, Debbie & Peggy.

A memorial service will be held Friday, May 25 th at 2:00 p.m. at Walker Mortuary in Freeport. Interment will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport at a later date. A memorial fund has been established for St. Jude's, FHN Hospice, and Friends for Ever Humane Society.
