Dr Richard R Mason, 90, of Cedarville, died Saturday, March 23, 2013.
Dr Mason was a livestock Veterinarian and had practiced in Stephenson County for 40 years.
Born April 22, 1922 in Newcomerstown, Ohio he was the son of Dr Ray R and Mildred C (Pierson) Mason.
He served in the United States Navy 1944-1946 as a Medical Corpsman. Dr Mason graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the Ohio State University in 1948. He married Margaret L Ross in Freeport on November 19, 1950.
They moved to Cedarville in February 1957 where they raised their family.
During his life he was an avid gardener, spending most of his retirement devoted to the garden .
He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church of Freeport, An Honor Roll Member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, a Lifetime Member of the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association and a Lifetime member of the National Association of Atomic Veterans.
He is survived by his wife Margaret, of Cedarville; his daughter Sarah and husband David Morgan of Herefordshire, England, his three sons: Steven of Anchorage, Alaska, John and wife Kathleen of Ridott, Illinois and Dr William Mason and wife Robin of Wausau, Wisconsin, his brother Dr W.B. Mason and wife Madeline of Rancho Bernardo, California, brother-in-law Dr Richard Cole of Davidson, North Carolina, sister-in-law Pauline Forsythe of Freeport and extended family step-grandson Ryan Hiser and wife Rachel of Freeport.
Preceding him in death was an infant son Ray Stanley Mason, his sister Florence and his parents.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
There will be a gathering for friends and relatives from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the Cedarville Community Center in Cedarville.
At 3 p.m. there will be a remembrance service closing with a Naval Honor Guard presentation.
