Richard Edward Spangler of Freeport died Sat. Nov 18, 2017 in his home. Richard was born January 2, 1939 in St. Francis hospital, Freeport. He was the 1st baby of the New Year. The son of Harold and Marie (Ginnell) Spangler. He married Linda L. Lincoln Feb 15, 1964 in Freeport. He delivered newspapers as a young boy. He also worked at Fehr's gas station. He graduated from Freeport High School in 1957. He also served in the Air Force from October 8, 1957- October 6, 1961, while serving some time in Greenland. While working at Micro Switch he met and married the love of his life. He then worked as a plumber and Pipefitter for 30 years, retiring Jan 1, 1998. He also was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for 54 years. He was a member of Park Hills Evangelical Church. He was an avid sports fan and was so happy to see the Chicago Cubs win the World Series. He also followed the Chicago Bears and the Illinois Illini. He loved fishing and going to Lake Wisconsin.
Surviving are his wife Linda L. Spangler, Freeport: 2 sons, Joel Spangler Freeport, Darin (April) Spangler Medical Lake, WA. 4 grandchildren, Jarett Spangler, Freeport Ryan, Grant and Addison Spangler Medical Lake, WA. 2 sisters Joyce Miche, Pearl City, Il, Marsha (Steve) Meinert New Berlin, WI and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Spangler was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother-in-law Duane Miche.
Visitation will be from 4-7pm at Walker Mortuary on Friday, November, 24th. Services will be Saturday at 11am at Walker Mortuary on Saturday, November 25th with Rev. Mark Balmer officiating. Interment will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport.
