Rita K. Reeder, 61, of Freeport, died Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at her home.
Born July 2, 1953 in Freeport she was the daughter of Robert R. and Marion (Althoff) Fluegel. She married Mark E. Reeder May 5, 1973.
Rita was a Hair Stylist owning and operating Rita's Hair Design.
Her memberships included, Trinity United Methodist Church, board member and former President of Friends Forever Humane Society, Out of the Darkness Community Walks American Foundation for Suicide Prevention of which she walked in Freeport, Chicago, and Seattle. This lead to her love and participation in many walk and run events in the area.
She was a huge lover of animals. Rita was a foster care giver to hundreds of kittens for the Humane Society. She enjoyed boating and water skiing
She was determined to ski from lock and dam 13 to lock and dam 12 and accomplished this September 11, 2001.
Surviving is her Husband, Mark of Freeport; her son, Troy R. (Sarah) Reeder of Seattle, Washington; her mother, Marion L. Fluegel of Freeport; her mother-in-law, Ruth Frankenfield of Freeport; her sisters, Nancy (Bob) Cole of Crystal Lake and Lori VanZee of Perry, Iowa; her nieces and nephews, Cory (Sylvia) Smith of Troy, Ohio, Alison Vukovich of Lake in the Hills, Ryan (Janae) Hepler of Clive, Iowa, Aaron Hepler of Perry, Iowa, Arie VanZee of Perry, Iowa, Harley (Elizabeth) Reeder of Pennsylvania, Gerald Reeder of Colorado, Chad Miskimon of Stockton and Tasha Barnes of Freeport; and her sister-in-law, Nancy Reeder of Winslow.
She was preceded in death by her father, son, Matthew Gerald Reeder; and her father-in-law, Miles Frankenfield.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2015 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Reverend Julie Bunt officiating. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 5, 2015 at Trinity United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
