Freeport-R. L. Simmons, 64 , of Freeport, departed this life Monday, October 18, 2004, in her home.
Born September 12, 1940 in Webb, Mississippi she was the daughter of Dewitt and Carsie L. (Mazique) Perkins.
She accepted Christ as her savior in her early life.
R.L. was a member of Philippians Missionary Baptist Church. She worked for Micro Switch (Honeywell) 23 years until retirement.
Her parents and 3 uncles preceded her in death.
Surviving are her husband, Essix Simmons; 4 sons, Roger, Otha, Thella and Dannie Bland; 3 daughters, Shelly Perkins, Essie Simmons, and Mary Bland; 2 step sons, Larry and Avery Simmons; 2 brothers, Blannie (Juanita) Perkins and Dewitt (Myrtle) Perkins; 15 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews; her dear friend and sister in-law, Evelyn Simmons.
Visitation will be Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Philippians Missionary Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be Saturday 11 a.m. at Philippians Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Nathan Allison officiating. Burial will be in the City Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in her name.
