Freeport: Robert G. Bawinkel, 81 of Freeport died Monday June 21, 2010 at Stephenson Nursing Center, Freeport. Born November 26, 1928 in Ridott, IL. He was the son of George and Mabel (Siemens) Bawinkel. On July 6, 1988 he married Carol Pieper and she preceded him in death in June 2008. Robert worked for the Kelly Springfield Tire Company retiring in the early 1990's, he was a veteran of the Korean war and a life member of the Cedarville American Legion. Robert is survived by his daughter's, Sylvia Bailey of Arvada CO. and Bethanne Chimera of Showlo, AZ; one brother, Merle Bawinkel of Lady Lake, FL; eight grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Teresa Schwartz and two brothers. Funeral service and burial with Military Rites will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 24, 2010 at the Chapel of Peace in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Chapel of Peace. A memorial has been established.
