Robert William “Bill” Miller, 82 of Freeport, Illinois and Riverside, Iowa passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on the afternoon of Sunday, July 12th, surrounded by loving family members at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

Bill was born on April 10, 1944 in Wellman, Iowa, the son of Harold and Olive (Perrin) Miller. He attended Mid-Prairie High School in Wellman, Iowa and also had studies at the University of Iowa, Freeport (Highland) Community College, and attended an art school in Chicago.

On April 18, 1965 Bill married the love of his life, Cheryl. They spent 57 wonderful years together before Cheryl’s passing on June 4, 2022. They had resided in Shannon, Illinois and Freeport, Illinois during that span. They had one son, Shawn.

Bill and Cheryl loved to travel over the years. Their most memorable trip was attending the 2015 Kentucky Derby in person, while celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

Bill worked various jobs early in life, but he was primarily known for his 40+ years of service at the Kelly-Springfield Tire Factory/Titan Tire Factory in Freeport, Illinois, retiring in 2010.

Bill had a “green thumb” and absolutely loved working in his yard at any home he lived in. He took great pride in having a meticulous yard surrounded by a variety of plants and decorations. Working in his yard was therapeutic for him.

Bill was in the process of making his full-time residence in Riverside, Iowa, and being closer to his immediate family. He was able to enjoy his newly purchased condo for just over a month before his unfortunate passing.

Bill is survived by his son Shawn Miller, sisters Iva Hoylman and Julie Baker, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, sisters Phyllis Bloom and Mary Roberts, and brothers Kenneth Miller and Edward Miller.

A public visitation will be held at a later date at Walker Mortuary, 321 W Main St in Freeport, Illinois. There will be no funeral services. Condolences may be shared at www.walkermortuary.com.
