Freeport – Robert A. Diestelmeier, age 89 of Freeport passed away on Monday, October 22nd at Winn Prairie Assisted Living and Memory Care in Freeport. Born on August 14, 1929 to Benjamin and Esther (Beine) Diestelmeier. He graduated from Lena High School in 1947.  He married Eileen Andresen on June 8 ^th , 1951.    In his early years he was a farmer in the Eleroy area and then he worked at Kelly Springfield until his retirement at age 55.  He enjoyed running and he competed in 10K's until he was in his 60's.  He loved being with family, watching his grandkids compete in all kinds of activities.  He loved to travel and he was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan too.

He is survived by his wife, Eileen of Freeport.  His daughter, Sharolyn (Randy Walker) Meinert of Freeport and his son, Dr. Michael Robert Diestelmeier (Emma Ruth) of Altoona, WI.  His grandchildren Christopher Ryan Diestelmeier of LaCrosse, WI, Karin Beth (Joseph) Dzienkowski of Chippewa Falls, WI, Benjamin Robert (Alyssa) Diestelmeier of New Richmond, WI ,  and Michelle (James) Maves Delgenio of Astoria, NY.  His great grandchildren are Christopher Robert Diestelmeier, Caden James Diestelmeier, Gabriel Steven Diestelmeier, Ariadne Emma Diestelmeier, Drew Michael Dzienkowski, Tyler John Dzienkowski, Kendall Joe Dzienkowski, Lane Daniel Dzienkowski.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant son, Brian Thomas Diestelmeier.

There will be a visitation on Saturday, October 27 ^th at 11am at Walker Mortuary followed by a service at 1pm also at Walker Mortuary.  Interment will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens following the service.  Pastor Robert Phelps will be the officiant.  A memorial has been established in his name.
