Robert G. Geissberger, age 90 of Freeport, IL, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2024. He was born June 5, 1933 in Mauston, WI; the son of the late Godfrey and Elizabeth ( Wurba) Geissberger. He attended high school in Libertyville, IL. Robert Married Alice Bronkema on August 30, 1963 in Lena, IL; she passed on August 18, 2022.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Robert grew up a farm boy. He later worked for Civil/Helms as an operating engineer for 20 years. He later drove bus for the Senior Center and the Veteran's Association. He was a member of Bolton Community Church of Freeport. His memberships also include the Stockton Masonic Lodge and was also a member of the High 12 of the Freeport Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of AmVets and the Pearl City American Legion. Robert enjoyed woodworking, traveling, and going to various events. He spent a lot of his time helping those in need especially those who struggled with health issues. Bob's ability to captivate others with his stories was matched only by his genuine care for the needs of others, always ready to extend a helping hand and give wholeheartedly.
Robert is survived by his daughter, Dawn Geissberger of Freeport; sister, Evelyn Cipri of Monroe, WI; brothers-in-law: Wayne (Mary) Bronkema and Merle (Marie) Bronkema of Pearl City, IL; Paul (Evelyn) Bronkema of Stockton, IL; and Ron Thompson of Dixon, IL; sisters-in-law: Wilma Hiteman, Faye (Fred) Scheider and Cheryl Bronkema all of Freeport, IL; and Pat Bronkema of Forreston, IL; sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn (Dennis) Elmer of Dakota, IL and Diane (Lavern) Akins of South Wayne, WI; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice; brother, Godfrey (Olive) Geissberger, Jr.; sister, Delores Thompson; brothers-in-law, Bill Cipri and Adlai Hiteman; brother and sister-in-law; Lyle (Molly) Bronkema and Morrie (Judy) Bronkema.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. A memorial fund has been established in his name. Condolences may be shared at www.walkermortuary.com.
