Robert William Horstmeier, age 92 of Freeport, IL, passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Manor Court in Freeport. He was born March 1, 1932; the son of the late William and Wilhelmina (Lohmeier) Horstmeier. Bob was a graduate of Dakota High School in Dakota, IL. He married Dorothy Alice Larson; she passed at the age of 51. He later married Caryl Jane (Wisdom) Kortemeier on December 27, 1986.
He served in the United States Navy as a radio operator during the Korean War. Bob began his working career at Sundstrand then moved on to Atwoods. He later worked as a draftsman at Fairbanks Morse. After that, he worked as a lab tech. at Woodward Governor for 26 years, retiring in 1993. Following retirement, Bob ran his own repair business out of his home in Davis, IL.
He was a member of the Freeport Mennonite Church. Working was his hobby and his enjoyment. Bob was meticulous and had a great attention to detail. He was also an avid reader and loved visiting with people.
Bob is survived by his wife, Caryl Horstmeier; daughter, Nancy Fehr-Cronin; brother, Lee (Jean) Horstmeier; step-sons, Gary (Donelle) Kortemeier and David (Kate) Kortemeier; grandchildren, Candice Ray (Jose') Constantine, Amanda Noel (Gregory) Stubbe, Lucas (Sarah) Kramer, and Logan (Erin) Kramer; great-grandchildren, Addison Stubbe, Liam Stubbe, Antonio Constantine, Lucia Constantine, Sofia Constantine, Emalyn Kramer, Ava Anne Kramer, and Leo Kramer; step-grandchildren, Megan Kortemeier, Sarah (Keith) Kortemeier-Marten, Jackie (Tim) Brovold, Paul Kortemeier, Matt Kortemeier, Ryan (Kylie) Werntz, Adam (Fiance Sarah Baier) Werntz, Sophia Kortemeier, Conner Kortemeier, and Lain Kortemeier; step-great grandchildren, Ethan Brovold, Hannah Brovold, and Charlotte Werntz; and son-in-laws, Ted Kramer and Don Werntz. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; daughter, Sally; son, Karl; step-daughter, Linda Werntz; and step-great grandson, Liam Kortemeier.
Bob's family would like to thank FHN Hospice for their wonderful care.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the Freeport Mennonite Church Cemetery. There will be a viewing before the service beginning at 12:00 p.m. Memorials may be made in his name to FHN Hospice. Condolences may be shared at www.walkermortuary.com.
