Robert Merkle, age 89 of Freeport Illinois passed away peacefully on January 20th 2026. Robert was born on October 11 1936 in Lena Illinois to Sally and Edward Merkle.

Robert was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Robert's legacy will live on through all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Robert was very proud to have been an Air Force Vet.

He was an avid NHRA member having owned and raced many funny cars and dragsters through out the county. Although his proudest accomplishment was the love of his life Beverly. It was a rare occasion to see one without the other. She was his queen. They were married for 58 years and were just as much in love after 58 years as the very first year.

He is survived by his queen Beverly Merkle children and bonus children Victoria(Don) Franz, Rebecca (Craig) Bicker, Shelly(Dale) Diddens, Bill (Kathy) Griffin, Elizabeth(Tim) Eslinger and Robert D Merkle. He had 12 grandchildren,28 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.
