Freeport-Robert G. Moore, 74, of Freeport, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2006, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born December 14, 1931 in Freeport he was the son of William Telford and Josephine (Ward) Moore.
He graduated from Freeport High School in 1950 and enlisted in the Air Force in 1951. He graduated from Aviation Cadets as a fighter pilot. He flew an F-86D as a part of the Air Defense Command during the Korean Conflict.
On March 7, 1954 he married Sally Hirst at Larson Air Force Base in Moses Lake, Washington. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1956 and returned to Freeport.
Robert was a partner in the Moore and Wagner Standard Oil Station until 1966.
He returned to flying as a charter pilot and a flying instructor for Hartzog Aviation at the Rockford Airport. In 1970 he began flying for MTE Hydraulics in Rockford as their corporate pilot, and retired in 1992.
His interests included trains, NASCAR racing, traveling and being outdoors. He enjoyed family gatherings with his children and grandchildren.
Surviving is his wife of 52 years, Sally of Freeport; one son, John (Trudy) Moore of Freeport; two daughters, Linda (Tom) Balbac of Warren and Kathy (Greg) Drye of Lena; grandchildren, Amy (Pete) Sedivy Savanna, Justin and Erin Drye of Lena, Daniel and Alex Moore of Freeport and Andrew and Ellen Balbac of Warren; one great grandson, Orion Sedivy of Savanna.
His parents, an infant sister, Peggy, and two infant grandsons preceded him in death.
Funeral services and entombment will be Tuesday 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Oakland Cemetery & Mausoleum with Chaplain Don Swanson officiating.
Visitation will be Tuesday 9:30 a.m. until time of service in the Chapel of Peace at Oakland.
Memorials have been established for FHN Hospice Care and First Lutheran Church in Freeport.
