Robert J. Perry, 84, of Freeport, died Tuesday January 7, 2014, at Manor Court.
Born January 21, 1929 in Kewanee, Ilinois, he was the son of Kenneth and Althea (Siegmier) Perry. He married Barbara Olson June 25, 1950 in Kewanee. She died February 17, 2011.
Robert worked with his father at their DX Service Station.
He then was a technician 28 years at Zimmerman's until his retirement.
His memberships included Embury United Methodist Church for over 50 years, Northwest Illinois Rock Club and Badger Rock Club in Monroe, Wisconsin.
He did woodworking crafts for Embury Bazaars and was famous for his fudge making.
Surviving are his children, Dr. Michael (Susan) Perry, Jennifer (Mike) Castle both of Freeport; his brother, Kenneth Perry of Freeport; his sister, Shirley Hill of Montello, Wisconsin; his brother-in-law, Robert (Marcia) Olson of Oswego; five grandchildren, Ben (Katie) Perry, Sarah (Jason) VanHeirseele, Ellen (DeJuan) Shorter, Danielle Castle, Jesse Castle; five great grandchildren, Abigail Perry, Olivia VanHeirseele, Evan VanHeirseele, Sean Perry and Ariana Shorter
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter and his wife, Barbara.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Walker Mortuary with Reverend Julie Bunt of Embury United Methodist Church officiating.
Internment of his cremated remains will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
There will be a gathering for friends and relatives from 2 p.m. until time of service at Walker Mortuary.
Memorials have been established for FHN, Friends Forever Humane Society and Senior Citizens Center of Stephenson County.
