Freeport-Robert L. Pinnow, 88, of Freeport, died Friday, June 16, 2006, at FHN Memorial Hospital.
Born February 28, 1918 in Orangeville he was the son of Walter and Iva (Cantrill) Pinnow. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Agriculture in 1940.
He married Marian V. McCauley November 28, 1941 and she died August 5, 1989. He married Thelma Elliott July 28, 1990.
His first job was in South Dakota to reclaim the Badlands. Later after he returned to Illinois he became an Insurance agent for Country Companies.
A Mason he belonged to the Orangeville #687, and Evergreen #170, Masonic Lodge, Freeport Chapter #23, Freeport Council #39, Freeport Commandery #7 , Valley of Freeport Consistory, and Rockford Tebala Shrine.
His Masonic accomplishments included Worshipful Master of Orangeville Lodge, Sovereign Prince; Commander-in-Chief; Secretary of the Valley (1973-80), 33rd Degree Mason (1968), Tebala Shrine Drum & Bugle Corps (30 years), and Past president of Great Lakes D&B Corp Assn.
He was an avid fisherman for most of his life. He enjoyed sports and cheering for the Cubs and the Fighting Illini.
Surviving are his wife, Thelma of Freeport; one daughter, Dianne (Luke) Lekovish of Bloomington; 3 step daughters, Irene Rothe of Auburn, Maine, Nancy (Mark) Kneifel of Wappenger Falls, New York and Connie (Dave) Thorson of Argyle, Wisconsin; 1 stepson, Glen Elliott of Orangeville; 3 grandchildren, Shelly (Jim) Schroeder, Scott (Nancy) Lekovish, and Jill Lekovish; five step grandchildren, Elizabeth (Ryan Keith) Rothe, Stephanie Thorson, Crystal Thorson, Eric Kneifel, and Kevin Kneifel; one great grandchild, Liv Plum Lekovish; one son in-law, Ray Hutmacher.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Walter Jr.; his daughter, Adrian Hutmacher, and his first wife.
Funeral service will be Tuesday 2 p.m. at Orangeville United Methodist Church with Reverend James A Ketzel officiating. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Monday 4 to 7 p.m. at Walker Mortuary where at 7 p.m. there will be a Masonic service.
A memorial has been established in his name.
