Robert W. Riley, 84, of Freeport, died Saturday, January 10, 2009, at FHN Memorial Hospital.
Born September 15, 1924 in Kell, Illinois he was the son of James and Edna (Beasley) Riley. He married Edith Erdmier November 7, 1953 in Shannon.
Robert was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
He worked 43 years at Kable Printing in Mt. Morris.
An avid fisherman he enjoyed deer hunting, woodworking, and traveling.
He was an active member of Park Hills Evangelical Free Church and a life time member of the VFW.
Surviving are his wife, Edith of Freeport; 2 sons, Robert (Marlene) Riley Jr. of Orlando, Florida and Douglas (Iris) Riley of Baltimore, MD; 2 daughters, Vicki (Paul) Smith of Marquette, Michigan, Pamela (Curt) Blasy of Sioux Falls, SD, sister in-law, Lorraine Riley of Springfield, Illinois; 19 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; his son-in-law, Donald Boebel Sr. of Pearl City; 2 sister in-laws, Florence Erdmier and Marie Harnish both of Freeport.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 son, Brian; 1 daughter, Marcella; 1 granddaughter, Joy; 1 brother; 1 sister; 2 half brothers; and 4 half sisters.
Visitation will be Thursday 4 to 7 p.m. at Walker Mortuary.
Funeral service will be Friday 10 a.m. at Park Hills Evangelical Free Church with Reverend Tom McClellan officiating.
Following the service cremation rites will be accorded and his cremated remains will be buried in Silver Creek Cemetery in Mt. Morris at a later date.
A memorial has been established in his name.
