Robert D. Wing, age 87 of Freeport, IL, passed away at home on Thursday, March 4, 2021. He was born September 2, 1933 in Freeport, IL to David & Dorothy (McChesney) Wing. Bob attended Rockford and Pecatonica Schools. He married Betty Herbig on December 1, 1952.

He served his country from 1951 to 1954 as a U.S. Army Paratrooper. Bob was a Cement Mason for over 50 years, retiring in 1999. After retirement, he became co-owner of the family business, Four Wings Trucking Company of Monticello, WI. He enjoyed camping, fishing, boating and taking care of his lawn. He also enjoyed traveling and going to casinos.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Betty Wing of Freeport; children, Tracy (Heidi) Wing of Monticello, WI, Roger (Tammy) Wilson of Freeport, Lu Ann Webber of Freeport, and Diane Thruman of Milwaukee, WI; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister-in-laws, Dona Higgins and Frances Lambert; brother-in-law, Gerald (Susan) Herbig; several nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Bonnie & Jim Gorham. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeffery; and brother, Henry.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Walker Mortuary in Freeport with a visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens at a later date.
