Obituary

Rodney Alan "Fooney" Peterson passed away suddenly on February 16th, 2025, in Freeport, Illinois. Born on July 6th, 1962, in Monroe, Wisconsin. Fooney lived his early years in South Wayne, Wisconsin, before his marriage to his best friend and partner in all walks of life, Tami Richardson in 1987, and settled in Orangeville in 1989 to raise their family. Fooney lived a life full of hard work, laughter, and deep connections with his family and friends.

Fooney dedicated 37 years of his career as an iron delivery specialist at Grede foundry, where he took great pride in his skill at pouring iron. His work was not just a job, but a craft that he mastered and took immense satisfaction in. One of his greatest joys was sharing his workplace with his son Joseph. After decades dedicated to his trade, he retired in July of 2024, and was greatly enjoying his time as a retiree.

Fooney had an infectious laugh and love for life that was evident to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His silly and teasing manner brought joy and laughter to any gathering, making him the heart of family events, and friendly get-togethers. He loved the outdoors and could often be found puttering around the yard, or relaxing in the driveway, where he spent many hours with his wife and friends, family, and neighbors. A devoted sports fan, he never missed a game of his sons Joe and Shawn, or an opportunity to cheer on his Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, and Wisconsin Badgers. Whether watching a game or engaging in friendly banter and wagering, his enthusiasm was contagious. At home Fooney also loved playing endless games of rummy with his wife Tami, and other card games with family and friends. He found much happiness visiting with neighbors and friends and always had a joke or playful tease ready for those around him. His ability to bring laughter into everyday moments made him truly unforgettable.

Fooney is survived by his loving wife and partner in crime, Tami Peterson; his son Joseph (Alyssa) Peterson; and his cherished grandchildren Cooper, Kaleb, Bailey, and Annabelle. He also leaves behind his brothers Robbie (Mary) Peterson, Mark (Lorie) Peterson, and Marty-Joe (Trasie) Peterson; sisters-in-law Kelli (Mark) Metzler, and Vicki (Brad) Busker; mother-in-law Sharon Richardson; father-in-law DuWayne Gerdes; nephews Ryan, Tyler, and Josh; nieces Ashley, Courtney, and Raylin; as well as his numerous loving cousins.

He was preceded in death by his son Shawn; parents Gale and Marlys Peterson; father-in-law Maurie Richardson; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.

Fooney's presence brought warmth and laughter to those around him. His memory will live on through the countless stories shared by family and friends who were lucky enough to be a part of his life. May the joy he spread continue to bring comfort to all who loved him.
