Roger A. Ackerman, 73, of Orangeville, died Monday, February 11, 2008 at his home after a two year brave battle with cancer.
Born October 21, 1934 in Baileyville he was the son of Heite and Jennie (Brookman) Ackerman. He married Barbara Waller September 16, 1955.
Roger was a life time farmer.
In 1975 he was the second host of the Stephenson County Farm Visitation. In 1979 he received the Conservation Farmer of the year award. From 1976 through 1985 he hosted foreign guests and world dignitaries at his farm.
His interests included carpentry, wood working, hunting, and golfing. He was an avid Bears and NASCAR fan.
Surviving is his wife Barbara of Orangeville; 3 sons, Kurt (Jody) Ackerman of McConnell, Scott (Kelly) Ackerman of Montana, and Thomas (Pamela) Ackerman of Orangeville; 1 daughter, Peggy (Dennis) Miller of Rockford; 9 grandchildren, Nikki and Alex, Ackerman, Brianna, Daedra, and Audra Ackerman, Zachary Ackerman, and Jessica, Jackie, and Justina Miller; his sister in-law, Doris Ackerman of Forreston.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 sister; 1 brother; and 1 grandson.
Funeral service will be Saturday 2 p.m. at Walker Mortuary with Reverend Lyle Babcock officiating. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Friday 4 to 8 p.m. at Walker Mortuary.
A memorial has been established for the Monroe Clinic Hospice.
