Roger Stanley Finifrock, 93 of Freeport passed away peacefully at Serenity Estates of Freeport on Friday, May 8, 2026.

Roger was born on June 17, 1933 in Freeport, Illinois to Stanley Finifrock and Alice (Eikenberry) Finifrock. Stanley was a High School teacher and superintendent before returning to his farmstead near Lanark, Illinois in 1944.  Roger and his two older sisters, Mary (Edward) Bornemeier and Carol (Jack ) Williams, both deceased, spent their formative years there.  After graduation from Lanark High School in 1951, ROger married his High School sweetheart, Dorothy Jean (Stone) on December 31, 1951.

Roger and Jean then worked the family farm growing corn for a cattle feeding operation..  During the following years they had four children, Daniel (Sue) Finifrock of Freeport, IL, Bradley (Melissa) Finifrock of Orland Park, IL, Peggy Jo (Nesemeier) deceased and Ramona (Steve) Latham of Pearl CIty, IL. Roger was a member of the Lanark Church of the Brethren where he sang in the choir and was part of a church quartet. If you knew Roger you knew that he never met a stranger and liked getting to know people.

After a particularly difficult season on the farm, Roger began to look into other vocations and in 1971 he left the farm and went in to the insurance business.  Developing an insurance agency with 15 agents at one point called Finifrock and Associates Inc. located in Freeport, IL.

in 1991 Roger sold the business to his son, Daniel, who worked for the agency.  Roger and Jean then moved to Decatur, Tennessee where they purchased a 40 acre farm of mostly woods and went in to semi retirement.  Roger raised a few head of cattle while driving a school bus for the local school district.  On December 31, 2001, Roger and Jean celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by repeating their wedding vows at their beloved church, Ten Mile Methodist Church in Ten Mile, Tennessee with family and friends.

Then in the Spring of 2014, Roger and Jean fully retired and moved to Palmdale, CA near their son, Brad. Roger was a greeter at his local Methodist Church and enjoyed talking with everyone there.  Then shortly after he and his beloved Jean celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary, Jean died.  So, in 2022, Roger decided to move back to Freeport near their son, Daniel and daughter, Ramona.

Roger's 8 grandchildren:  Bryan Finifrock and Jennifer Rhodes, Sarah Ford, Zachary Finifrock and Elizabeth Jaquez, Christopher Finifrock, Derek Earlenbaugh and Jarrod Earlenbaugh as well as many great grandchildren.
