Roger Albert Henry Meinert, 81, of Davis passed away Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Medina Nursing Center in Durand. Born April 19, 1933 on the Meinert family farm in rural Rock City, he was the son of Lester and Marina (Lohmeier) Meinert. On June 20, 1954 he and Gladys Bingner were united in marriage at St. Paul Church of Epleyanna, in Davis. In 2014 they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Roger and Gladys spent their life farming together on the family farm in rural Rock City prior to retiring and moving to Davis. For years he helped at the Lohmeier saw mill with his uncles and cousins located near the corner of Davis & Rock Grove Roads. Roger enjoyed his time farming with his family and area neighbors. He served in the United States Army from 1956-1957 stationed in Germany as a radio technician. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Church of Epleyanna and was involved in various community organizations. He was a trustee for Rock Grove Township. Roger spent 60 plus years as a member of Davis Town and Country and was a very active member of the annual Pancake Day. He was a trustee and fireman for Davis Fire Protection District for many years. He was a lifelong member of the Stephenson County Farm Bureau. Roger was a proud member of the American Legion Gold Star Post # 676 of Durand. Throughout his life he enjoyed many recreational activities including softball, bowling, and golfing. Roger was also an active euchre player, and those who played with him knew it. Roger was an avid supporter and spectator of Dakota Indian sports watching his sons and grandsons throughout their high school careers. He was also a Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan. Surviving are his wife Gladys of Davis; two sons Bruce Meinert and Randy (Sherry) Meinert both of Davis; three grandchildren Scott (Elyse) Meinert, Spencer (Katie) Meinert and Sean Meinert; his first great grandchild Braeden Albert Meinert; and sister Dorothy (Richard) Zanzinger of Janesville, WI. Preceding him in death were his parents. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 17, 2015 from 4-7p.m. at St. Paul Church of Epleyanna rural Davis. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Church with Reverend Scott Naevestad and Reverend Dick Thompson officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul Church Cemetery, with the Durand American Legion performing Military Honors.
