Roger A. Johnson, age 78 of Freeport, IL, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at the VA Hospital in Madison, WI. He was born September 8, 1946; the son of the late Rolland and Audrey (O'Malia) Johnson. He was a 1964 graduate of Freeport High School.

Roger served in the United States Navy from 1964 to 1967 during Vietnam, aboard the USS Hancock. While overseas in Japan, he purchased a motorcycle he brought back with him. He drove it home from San Diego and took it on his first date with Judy Rada. Roger and Judy were married on November 23, 1968.

He worked for Freeport Organ Company and at Newell Company for 25 years. He also was partial owner of Southside Saw Sharpening and worked part-time at Swiss Colony in the computer room. Roger was a member of St. Thomas of Aquinas Catholic Church of Freeport. He loved to golf, especially with his family. He also enjoyed playing guitar and horseshoes. Roger was quite handy, frequently working on his own cars and making household repairs. He was known for his "dad jokes" and was very proud of his family.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Johnson of Freeport; sons, Brian (Rachael) Johnson of Shannon, IL and Timothy (Kelly) Johnson of Wheeling, IL; grandchildren, Elliana, Luca, and Noah; sisters, Linda Johnson and Cynthia (Ken) Slocam all of Lansing, MI; and brother, Dale Johnson of Weatherford, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Nancy Benjamin.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Walker Mortuary in Freeport. There will be a visitation before the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established in his name. Condolences may be shared with his family at www.walkermortuary.com.
