Obituary

Freeport
Rolan Crow had an adventurous life that started in the town of Kent, Illinois where he was an only child to Hawley and Doris Crow. Rolan's father came from the Waterloo and Independence, Iowa area, where the family reunions are still held each year. His mother came from Kent, Illinois. Rolan graduated from Pearl City High School and then later in his teen years decided to hitch hike to Colorado where he became a ranch hand in the mountains of Gunnison. Rolan loved the outdoors and the mountains, but he missed the many shades of green from his home state of Illinois. He found he was very good with his hands and working with wood. He also had a creative mind, so he began a career of carpentry in the Freeport area. He worked for Jim Winters back then and later began his own business. He often pointed out houses that he and his crew built, while driving through the streets of Freeport. He spent time in the army in Germany during the Korean war where he met Charlotte Muller and eventually they became parents to two girls, Yvonne and Tianna. The family lived in Kent for many years in a home built by Rolan's father. Rolan decided he wanted to leave a legacy and planted 1000 red and white pine trees on his property. They started as tiny saplings and many people in the town of Kent helped plant them. Today they are a towering reminder of the hard work and love that went into the project. Psalms 1:3 The Blackhawk Monument by Kent is where another of Rolan's legacies can be found, as he built the shelter house at the top of the hill where many picnics are still held. In the twilight years of his life he has made many friends in the places where he lived at Willow Apartments and Heritage Woods. He will be missed! He is survived by his two daughters, Yvonne Myers and Tianna Beyer, two grandsons, Robbie and Tasha Beyer, Eric and Joni Beyer and three great grandchildren, Talyn, Gavyn and Declyn. There will be a private memorial service for the family, but prayers and thoughts from all are welcome and appreciated. Thank you to Steve and all the others at Walker Mortuary for your kindness and help during this stressful time. Please leave a message in Rolan's guestbook at www.walkermortuary.com
