Ronald W. Ahrens, 71, of Freeport, died Thursday, September 15, 2011, in Freeport.
Born February 12, 1940 in Elgin he was the son of Frank and Wilma (Littlejohn) Ahrens. He married Marlene Keech February 14, 1979.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
Ronald worked at Honeywell 44 years retiring in 2004.
Ron was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Surviving is his wife, Marlene of Freeport; his daughters, Bonnie (Scott) Ahrens Nevenhoven of Pecatonica, Susan Wolfe Ahrens of Roscoe, Amy Kleindl of Freeport; his sons, Ronald W. Ahrens Jr. of Machesney Park, Michael (Sara) Ahrens of Roscoe, John (Stacey) Kleindl of Freeport, Matthew (Jen) Carpenter of Freeport, and Brian Ahrens of Peoria; several brothers and sisters; 17 grandchildren including Erin Hoskinson who is being raised by Ronald and Marlene; 3 great grandchildren; his special friends Jim and Sherry Sager of Elizabeth.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his Guardians, Rose and Art Bombard; and his son-in-law, Scott Wolfe.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Reverend Arturo Mallari officiating. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Monday 4-7 p.m. where at 7 p.m. there will be a prayer service.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
