Ronald “Ron” Karl Samuelson

Ronald “Ron” Karl Samuelson, 75, retired Sergeant Major (SGM), passed away on Father’s Day, June 21, 2026. He was born on January 22, 1951, at Deaconess Hospital in Freeport, Illinois, to Floyd and Almeda Samuelson.

Ron dedicated much of his life to service through his careers in the U.S. Army and at the Bexar County Courthouse. After seeing the world during his military career, he returned to Freeport, the place he always called home, where he enjoyed a fulfilling retirement surrounded by family and friends.

Ron loved to relax and watch television, especially old westerns, the Golf Channel, and the Food Network. He took great pride in maintaining his yard and making his home beautiful. Above all else, he loved his wife, Barbara, and his children.

Ron was a laid-back soul with a wonderful sense of humor. He loved telling stories, making people laugh, and keeping his audience entertained. He enjoyed German chocolate cake, coffee throughout the day, and spending time in his favorite recliner. His kindness, laughter, and presence will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara (Chapman) Samuelson; his sons, Kevin S. Samuelson and Matthew F. Samuelson; and his daughter, Gracie A. Samuelson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Almeda (Dame) Samuelson, and his son, Marcus J. Samuelson.
