Ruby R. Alleman, age 101, of Freeport, IL, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Manor Court in Freeport. She was born May 10, 1922 in Freeport; the daughter of the late George and Klara (Kargenbrink) Richart. She attended Lincoln and Courier Schools in her younger years. She graduated from Freeport High School in 1940. Ruby married her former husband, Rex Alleman in November of 1940.

She began her working career at Burgess Battery where she spent two years. Following that, Ruby and Rex operated Pleasant Valley Dairy until 1960. She went on to work at the Sizzle Shop for many years and later became the first women to work at the Freeport Post Office. She also worked for Lee's Market where she decorated cakes and made doughnuts. She worked well into her 80's, joining her family's business as a cook and bartender at the Cedar Inn until they closed in 2010. She was famous for her mac and potato salads.

Ruby was a lifetime member of the Freeport Moose Lodge. She enjoyed baking cookies and cupcakes for her family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. Most of all she loved playing with her great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, David Alleman of Freeport; grandchildren, Brian (Maggie) Geiseman of Freeport, Todd (Jennifer) Kauffman of Ridott, Brenda (Jeff) Lillge of Freeport, Eric (Stacey) Alleman of Peculiar, MO, Laura Kauffman of Dakota, IL, and Kerry Alleman of Kansas City; 10 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Linda Geiseman and Sylvia Kauffman; and brothers, Ray, Ralph, and Royce Richart.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Walker Mortuary in Freeport, IL with a visitation before the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport at a later date.
